World Doll Day

It's World Doll Day!

The second Saturday
of every June is
WORLD DOLL DAY!

My 'Alice, Dreaming' doll, dozing
in her bed on the lawn.

Started by Mildred Seeley
in 1986
it encourages the celebration of dolls
and the role of dolls
in spreading love and understanding.

    1. Aww, Rachel, thank you. There's all kind of bunnies near where she's sleeping. I was hoping to get a photo of one of them if they came close.

  3. I never knew there was a "World Doll Day". I read the article on Mildred Seeley and learn something new. I would love to see a photo of the doll collection that sold in 202.

    Your dreaming Alice is beautiful.

    1. I have to admit I was really shocked to find I didn't know about this date. I'd heard the name 'Seeley' connected with dolls, but I thought it was a company that made porcelain fairies. Her collection does sound fabulous, doesn't it? That's why we buy dolls, right? They're an investment! *winks*

    1. One of mine, too! I learned so much making this doll. Like what, I hear you ask? Like not hoarding all my vintage fabric, but to actually start using it to make the dolls!

  5. Is there a World Action Figure day? Or do Oliver and Orlando have to jump in with the dolls to celebrate?

    1. I think they need the ladies around as I'm not sure they'd celebrate with each other. Oliver isn't like that, apparently. As for Orlando, I think he's anybody's.(Which is ironic, as he doesn't have a body yet..)

    1. I have to be honest here and admit I didn't know either. And I'm a real lurky troll on doll sites so I don't know how I missed it. I think this event needs more publicity, right? Isn't that what the internet is for?

    Such a grand celebration!
The photo here with your beautiful Alice.. At first glance, I thought it was the cover of an art magazine!

    1. We really need to get the word out for next year for World Doll Day. Flags, events, prizes!

And that's such a sweet thing to say about the Alice photo. Funnily enough, she's one of a series I did out in the garden, for an online art magazine coming out next week. Next week! I'm so excited!

    2. Yes we sure do! That is a great idea..

Oh my gosh, congratulations Rhissanna! What online magazine is it, if I may ask... I sure hope she is on the cover, because that is where this photo belongs.. How exciting for you...
Thank you so much for wishing Jasper a Happy Birthday! He is precious to me.

    3. It's called Last Laugh Magazine. There's a link here to all the back issues. I'll be spamming links here on the blog when it happens, which I think is 26th June, and to celebrate I'll be putting up a free doll pattern.

  14. I love all the storybook dolls. I think we own every book about Alice and all the other fun stories thru the years. what classics. You always create such wonderful dolls. Funny how so many people have so many different ideas of what they love. Always good to see you here.

    1. Thank you so much, Anne! One of the wonderful things about Alice is that she's wide open to interpretation by artists everywhere. Even if I just copied Tenniel's original drawings, there's three different dresses, in different colours.
